From now till 30 June 2016, witness the multi-faceted history of Louis Vuitton at the Malle Extraordinaire exhibition in Singapore.
If you are looking for something new to explore this weekend, head down to the Louis Vuitton Island Maison at Marina Bay Sands. For the first time, a collection of these historical luggages has been flown in from the French maison’s archives to Singapore in a bid to showcase and deepen the public’s appreciation of Louis Vuitton’s most prized possessions.
Since its maiden production of premium luggages in 1835, Louis Vuitton has revolutionised travel with the introduction of the iconic flat trunk design that allowed luggage space to be maximised. Its patented ‘S’ lock secured belongings with a corresponding key, which gave travellers peace of mind because of its unique and intricate number workings.
In addition to these features, Louis Vuitton utilised a Gaboon and Beech wood combination that made it durable and lightweight, while the iconic Monogram or Damier checked canvas are laminated with waterproof materials. When opened, you will see its interiors lined with canvas in crisscrossing Malletage print, a removable interior tray, and a protective cover. For the final touches, handles were swathed in luxurious VVN leather, and cognac-hued lozines detailed with golden brass corners and rivets.
Aside from Louis Vuitton’s progressive features at the time, the French maison also entertained customised orders for varying uses and dimensions, and even personal markings recognisable by its owner — all handcrafted in the Maison’s original workshop in Asnieres. Given the attention to fine details, Louis Vuitton remains to be the preferred luggage of affluent and influential people up until today. Intrigued? Just head down to the Louis Vuitton Maison Island to see these exquisite pieces up-close.
