Malaysia Fashion Week launches in Paris through celebrated shoe designer Jimmy Choo’s vision to propel Malaysian artistry on a global scale.
Malaysia Fashion Week (MFW) 2015 got off to a grand global launch — through a runway presentation of Asia and Malaysia’s finest — to an intimate and prestigious audience at Mercedes Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week (MBSAFW), held at the Maison De L’Amerique Latine, Paris, in September.
Taking the opportunity to introduce Kuala Lumpur as a rising fashion destination due to the rising interest for Malaysian craft, another exhibition took place at the Mercedes-Benz Gallery in Champs-Elysees with a powerful display of Malaysian designer brands. Meticulously selected for capturing the marriage of Asian essence and international appeal, more than 60 elite French buyers were introduced to nine designers — Bon Zainal, Fairuz Ramdan, Illiza Ho, Porosus, Blancheur, Royal Selangor Pewter, Von Jolly Couture together with Ali Charisma (Indonesia) and Avel Bacudio (Philippines).
Aside from showcasing these talented fashion stars, Malaysia’s national trade promotion agency MATRADE (Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation), in partnership with STYLO International (Malaysia’s leading fashion event organiser) and Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, aims to create boundless business opportunities for industry players.
Malaysia’s beloved shoe couturier extraordinaire Jimmy Choo, Guest of Honour and Honorary Advisor to MFW, also introduced the coveted Datuk Professor Jimmy Choo Education Program Awards — where young, emerging designers will be recognised and given a chance to win a fashion mentorship with the notable fashion personality in London.
The official Malaysia Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016 will be subsequently held on 4 to 7 November 2015 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
