Matte red lips look so beautiful, they just might make you give up gloss forever. Read on to know more about this new shine-free lip trend.
This stunning image from the backstage of 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall-Winter 2015 runway show has officially spiced up our sleepy Saturday morning. This makeup achieves what many of us aim for: matte lips with dewy skin, the perfect balance of textures. The same look was also seen at Vanessa Seward, Acne Studios and Tod’s.
Let’s go back to that crazy-gorgeous pout. Stained like she just devoured an entire cherry pie, makeup artist Francelle Daly used only NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil on the model’s lips. Sometimes, less really is more. In cherry red, blood red or even reddish oxblood, the shades are definitely great for the coming season. They definitely have a retro vibe to them, which we also love.
So how do you pull off perfectly-lined, red matte lips? First, make sure to exfoliate your lips beforehand, as the formula will make any chapped or flaking skin more noticeable. You can also prep your lips prior with matte lip balm so the next lip product glides easily without sheering out.
Now that your lips are perfectly soft and smooth, line and fill your lips with the said NARS lip pencil in Mysterious Red, or any red lip liner of your choice. Next, add a dusting of powder for an ultra-matte finish. Your lip colour is not going anywhere.
If you’re going with the matte lipstick route, remember to exfoliate your lips first. Then, swipe the colour straight from the stick to the lips! We recommend MAC The Matte Lip lipstick in Studded Kiss or NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam, which has a liquid lipstick formula. Pair with a light blush, add a plaid top, and it’s retro-chic perfection.
