Leave it to Marc Jacobs to start the year in a grand fashion. After that teasing preview of Anja Rubik in a military-inspired look, sporting the short, messy bob we saw on his runway last year, we couldn’t wait to see who else would be fronting his Spring Summer 2015 campaign. Imagine our amazement when the full campaign was revealed, and featured not just one or two famous faces, but a whole army of the top fashion soldiers in the industry.
Photographer David Sims shot these veteran girls and rising young stars in the modelling world for the campaign: Adriana Lima, Joan Smalls, Anja Rubik, Natasha Poly, Anna Ewers, Issah Lish, Jessica Stam, Karlie Kloss and Kendall Jenner. Styled by Katie Grand, the girls wore sturdy looking pieces resembling military uniforms in predominantly earthy shades such as olive green, khaki and rust, paired with what WWD has described as “Dr. Scholl’s-esque sandals”. Makeup was done by Diane Kendal, which showed the models with dewy skin and seemingly bare-faced. Hairstyling was done by Guido Palau, which featured the same messy bob wigs we spotted at the runway show.
With this newest campaign, Marc Jacobs has proven that he knows how to make a buzz. Just last year, he featured virtual unknowns – “real people” instead of models – scouted from social media to star in his Autumn Winter 2014 ads. And now he’s featured nine of the most recognisable faces in fashion today in nine double pages that featured each in a full-length shot and a portrait.
