When Chanel announced that Gisele Bündchen was to be the newest face of their iconic Chanel N°5 perfume campaign back in May, we all thought it would bear the same classic look of its previous campaigns that featured the likes of Nicole Kidman, Audrey Tautou and even Marilyn Monroe.
Recently however, Gisele released a photo via Instagram that got us thinking things could be going differently this time. “So excited to introduce a behind the scene picture of my next campaign for @chanelofficial. #chaneln5 #theonethatiwant,” read the caption. Instead of the usual photo shoot studio backdrop, it shows Gisele barefoot on sand. Yes, that is the blonde beauty with her famous beachy waves, wearing what looks like a navy blue rash guard with cream trimming. Yes, that is a Chanel surfboard she’s carrying – one that Beyoncé had strapped to her back for Carine Roitfeld’s fashion book.
The question on everyone’s lips right now is – are we going to see Gisele actually surfing for Chanel in this new campaign? It’s a first for the luxury house, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Gisele was actually up for the task. Plus, the campaign has been directed by Baz Luhrmann, whose film credits include extravagantly visual films like Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby. This could also be signalling a change for the Chanel N°5 woman – in that she may not only be classically beautiful, but she can also be adventurous and fun. This is one campaign we’re definitely keeping tabs on (if only to further certify Gisele’s goddess status).
