Ever fantasise about being a gladiator a la Olivia Pope in sleek suits and dresses that are both powerful and sexy? Consider it handled. The oh-so-stylish TV character – often described as a “gladiator in suits” by the media and fashion critics – didn’t make it to our best-dressed list for nothing. And now you too can copy her impeccable style: The Limited clothing line inspired by the show Scandal and its star is now available to the public!

Dubbed as “fearless fashion for ladies who lead”, the collection was a collaborative effort between actress Kerry Washington (who plays Olivia Pope), The Limited head designer Elliot Staples and costume designer for Scandal Lyn Pope. Chief executive for the label Diane Elis shared high hopes for the collection, saying research on their typical shopper showed that “Kerry Washington came up in the top three celebrities she looks to, along with Jennifer Aniston and Sandra Bullock.”

Chanel Iman fronts the ad campaign for the collection wearing a crisp white suit, a stunning, soft pink coat and a plaid cape worn with grey gloves and charcoal trousers. The clothing line includes sophisticated pieces such as a classic beige dress (which could very well be the new LBD); flare leg trousers in cream, white, grey and blush; draped cardigans; luxurious wrap coats in forest green and cream; a funnel neck tweed jacket; and capes in white, plaid and khaki. The pieces are priced at USD49 upwards.

So will this collection inspire a new trend of bold, authoritative dressing? Its collaborators certainly think so. “Women often feel they have to choose between smart or sexy,” says Kerry Washington. “This collection shows you can be both of those things. You can be fabulous and fearless.”
