Your Guide to Retro Chic

Trends may come and go but vintage will always have a special place in our hearts that always seem to beat for timeless fashion. We love the flappers of the roaring 20s, the flared skirts of the 50s and the neon colours of the 80s. And so we often find ourselves yearning for a bit of retro glam in our looks. Here are ways to retrofy your modern wardrobe without looking like you’ve been transported by a time machine from a bygone era.

Instead of looking like a huge neon sign pointing to the 80s, just add a pop of highlighter colour to your ensemble. Wear a fluorescent yellow skirt with a crisp, white top. It’s casual and fun without being an eyesore. If you’re still a bit neon shy, simply add bright hues with a purse or a pair of sandals.

Flared skirt
Channel your inner Audrey Hepburn with a boat-neck dress with a flared, A-line skirt. It’s a classic silhouette that is feminine and flirty. If wearing a basic black, white or striped dress, add an accent by throwing over a coloured cardigan.

Geometric Print
Bring your Mad Men fantasies to life with a geometric print dress. Nothing screams mod than a black and white printed dress that you can instantly update with some chunky gold accessories.

Flared jeans
You can hang your skinny jeans for a while and give a pair of flared jeans a chance. Go for a cool, hippie vibe and pair them with loose tops and blouses or long cardigans for a fresh, easy-breezy look.

Sequined dress
There is no disco in disco party without some sequins! Pick a glitzy glam mini dress covered in sequins for a retro party look.

flapper dress
If you want to take the flapper girl route, opt for a drop waist dress adorned with sparkles or beads.

polka dot dress
Polka dots don’t just come in navy and white. Try different colour combos such as this black and gold dress.

round sunnies
Round sunnies are very retro. To keep the large framed eyewear looking fresh, try transparent and coloured plastics or feline-inspired sunglasses.

Have fun taking a trip down fashion memory lane!
