A week ago we were treated to the Balenciaga Autumn Winter preview. The pieces, creative director Alexander Wang’s first for the label, were eagerly anticipated and then thoroughly dissected. The collection is a return to the brand’s fundamental principles, homage to Cristobal Balenciaga’s vision if you may. But with a subtle, yet perceptible reinterpretation, which ensured the clothes didn’t look dated. Wang drew inspiration from the brand’s sculptural lines to create furs that looked like marble, knits with plaster-like appearance and mosaic-like leathers. Also on display were rounded volumes, molded peplums and petal skirts. The accessories – understated boxy purses, metal cuffs and single-thong evening pumps perfectly matched the statuesque clothes.
Available at Balenciaga #01-09/10 Hilton Hotel Singapore.
