How To Craft a Neutral Smoky Eye

We love the sexiness of a smoky eye, but the charred look of black shadow isn’t appropriate for every setting. Not to worry! The sultry eye look is about technique, so you can always change up the colour choice as you’d like. So try our easy tutorial to land this coveted eye look.

Prep and Prime: A smoky eye is all about the crease, so it needs to stay intact throughout the day. A touch of lid primer before will help prevent the natural oils in the skin from shifting your shades around.

Start Light: Find the shade in your neutral palette that matches closest to the shade of your eye and apply it all over the lid to act as a base for the rest of the look.

Cut The Crease: Try a shade two to three shades darker than your first shade. If you’re feeling brave enough, you can always reach for a dark chocolate that complements all eye and skin tones. Lightly apply the shadow with a fluffy eye shadow brush from the outer corner of the lid into the crease, blending towards the inner corner to almost outline the eye socket. Remember, you can always add to it.

Haute Highlight: Use a shade similar to your base shadow that has a hint of shimmer and apply from the crease to the brow, gently blending for a seamless look.

Line It Up: Use a chocolate eyeliner to line the top and bottom of the eye, adding a little more to top to give lashes a bit more volume.

Lush Lashes: Swipe on a few layers of mascara to the top and bottom lashes and you’re set!
