No one wants to have a cookie cutter home that looks the same as everyone else’s but when most of the population shops at Ikea and the likes, owning a unique home can be a challenge. The easiest way to set your pad from the rest is through DIY. In our third installment, we bring it all into the bedroom – no major renovation involved – just these hands-on projects!
Organise your bracelets, necklaces and more without those boring plastic cubby-hole systems everyone uses. One of the simplest DIY jewellery organiser requires you to line a corkboard with any wallpaper or wrapping paper of your choice and attaching hooks. We cannot think of a more comprehensive way to display your entire collection.
Written word canvas
If you are particularly proud of your penmanship, creating your own written word masterpiece is right up your alley. With just a plain canvas, some paint and a brush or a huge-tipped marker, scrawl your favourite song lyrics, quote from a movie, paragraph from a book or anything you make up. Black words on a white canvas is modern art at its DIY finest.
Fabric Fringe Garland
For a touch of festivity, hand these fringed tassels above your bed. The good news? Making these tassels require zero sewing, so you can go crazy and make a garland for every room in your house! We particularly like how they dance when the wind comes through to liven up the space.
Bedside Bookmark Abode
Bookworms who can’t go to bed without reading a few pages will love this adorable wooden house that does double time as both a Scandinavian-chic decoration piece and a book holder. Enlist your man to show off how handy he is with a saw – no heavy duty carpentry is required, don’t worry. Before you turn in every night, pop your book right on the top of the mini house to form its roof at the page where you stopped in the story.
Not everyone can be a princess but everyone can have her own canopy just like royalty. Be it a princess affair of sheer curtains that drape from the ceiling to floor or a simpler affair of curtains hanging just over the head of the bed, this DIY project isn’t too tough for your resident handyman. Our favourite is the modern but impressive take on the canopy – simply suspend your favourite fabric over your bed.
