Nail trends sometimes come and go quickly, but one trend that looks set to stay for the next few seasons is the textured nail. Down the runway, models from Libertine, Lela Rose, Rodarte and Houghton displayed textured nails using a variety of materials, including textured nail polish, nail stickers, beads and real lace.
It’s no surprise that all the major nail polish brands, from OPI to Zoya, have put out textured nail polishes that are snatched up by nail lovers. And the rest, including China Glaze, Deborah Lippmann, and Butter London have plans to release them too, so be prepared to see more of this trend around!
Products to try: OPI Liquid Sand, Zoya Pixie Dust, Illamasqua Speckled, Nails Inc. Feather Effect
Thanks to the availability of products out there, getting this look on your nails doesn’t mean you have to spend time or money at a salon. Here are our tips for wearing the trend:
1. Go Bright and Glittery!
Because textured nails are typically matte and not shiny, they tend to make nail colours look a little flat and dull on the nail. Thus, if you’re going for a matte or a flat texture, feel free to go a shade or two brighter than what you’d normally wear. Also, glitter is a great way to enhance the textured nail further by providing visual contrast.
2. Get Your Creative Juices Flowing
Part of the beauty of the textured nails down the runways was that many of them were deliberately left a tad messy for a chic, carefree vibe. Models for The Blonds, for example, sported a nonchalant red-and-black caviar manicure with beads haphazardly applied down the middle of the nail, to much acclaim. So who says your textured nail has to look perfect? Creativity definitely trumps primness this season, so feel free to experiment and play around to get your own take on the textured trend.
3. Contrast and Conquer
The rock-and-roll vibe of the textured nail might initially seem difficult to incorporate in real life. But you don’t have to dress like a rock star to have nails like one! The rugged appearance of the textured nail can add a little touch of rebellion to both floaty spring dresses and sleek work outfits. And, the laidback air these nails give makes them perfect for casual days too – think lived-in jeans and a simple tank top. The possibilities are indeed endless!
