Review: Dot Marc Jacobs

“I dont think there is ever a wrong time for a polka dot …” ~ Marc Jacobs

Indeed, there isn’t. Marc Jacobs’ latest fragrance is a tribute to what’s perhaps the designer’s favourite pattern.

Polka dots have been a regular feature in Jacobs’ collections from the start, whether it’s for his eponymous line, his diffusion line, Marc By Marc Jacobs or for Louis Vuitton. Anything he can dot, oh yeah, he dots with flair — dresses, shoes, bangles, bags, you name it. A fragrance named Dot? It was a matter of time.

Dot is described by the the MJ team to be a “lush juicy floral” scent that’s “happy and vivacious”. We’re inclined to agree. But there are a few more adjectives we’d like to add: Delicious, flirty, playful, sweet and rather addictive. A look at the ingredients list gives us a pretty good idea why: Red berries, dragonfruit and honeysuckle for top notes; jasmine, coconut water and orange blossom at the heart; and finally, at the base to boot, there’s vanilla, driftwood and musk.

Do we like it? Yes. But we like the whimsical, butterflied bottle — co-designed by MJ and Sayuri Shoji — even more.

Dot EDP is available in 30ml. 50ml and 100ml bottles (S$98, S$125 and S$158, respectively) at major department stores and Marc By Marc Jacobs boutiques. The range also consists of shower gel and body lotion.
