Couture Week AW12: Versace

When Donatella Versace puts on a couture show, you can expect the signature sexiness of her label to be taken to its luxurious limits. What she showed at the Paris Ritz was no exception.

There was a bondage flavour running through the collection with a chainmail-style material appearing on hip-skimming coats and the bodices of floor-sweeping chiffon gowns which came in in lemon yellow, lavender and sky blue, and were daringly slashed to the thigh. Lady-like little nude buttoned ankle boots toned down the molto sexiness a tad, but not much.

Coats were short and sexy (of course!) with one made from tiny strips of woven leather which revealed glimpses of skin, another in molten bronze and a third in pale yellow with hundreds of tiny holes punched in it. Wide belts bearing the Versace Medusa head logo cinched in dresses and coats and added structure to fluid shapes.

When Donatella took to the catwalk to accept the applause from a star-studded crowd that included Christina Hendricks and Jessica Alba, she was wearing one of her own creations — a black corseted dress in those same strips of patent leather, she was the embodiment of her brand — vampy, feminine and unapologetically glamorous. Bravo!
