In case you haven’t heard, Glam Asia’s much-anticipated Asia’s Top Glam Bloggers contest is officially on! You have until February 29 to submit your entry.
To keep things interesting while the entries come pouring in, we will be introducing one of the contest’s five lovely guest judges every week via an interview, in which they chat with Glam Asia about their humble beginnings, inspirations and style, and dish out some invaluable advice on what they think it takes to be a standout blogger these days.
In the spotlight this week is Sonia Eryka, author of A Diary Of The Riotous Belle, a blog she started in 2009. Hailing from Java, Indonesia, Sonia is quite the multi-hyphenate — aside from blogging, she’s also the designer of her own label Riotous, a fashion stylist, photographer and she’s in a band called Syndicate!
When did you start blogging. What inspired you?
I started blogging in 2007 but launched this blog only in 2009. The blog is meant to be a personal journal … I posted my daily outfits, and people started to visit and call it a fashion blog.
Can you tell us about you and your blogging style?
Since it’s a personal journal, it covers things other than fashion such as current inspirations, music I’ve been listening to, some video cover of me or my band’s gigs, even some random food recipes I’d tried — basically all of my favorite things, and fashion make up a big part of it.
What, in your opinion, are the key qualities that make a good fashion blogger especially when there’s a dime a dozen of them?
Be confident of your personal sense of style because style is unique, and being yourself. No one can force you to like what you don’t like. Be inspired, not an impersonation.
Who are some of your favourite bloggers?
I love to visit Tavi Gevinson’s Style Rookie and Cory Kennedy’s blog. They took blogging onto a different level — not just an ordinary fashion blog but they’re also letting the readers in on a peek into their personal lives and their charming and unique personalities, too.
What advice would you offer participants, especially the new kids on the blog?
Enjoy everything you do, never blog because you have to, but because you love to.
What’s your fashion style and favourite fashion moment ever?
I am a proud wanderer. I love to stumble upon vintage apparels, one-of-a-kind clothes are like the ultimate treasure and an accomplishment for me.
What do you enjoy most about being a blogger?
I love to blog as much as I love fashion, and now, to have an opportunity to work in the fashion industry at this age, is like heaven. I feel so blessed.
