Black Magic

Just looking at the runway pictures of designers’ bright and delightful Spring collections makes us feel cheery. While most people would opt for bright-coloured make-up to match their getup, by all means go back to black — black make-up, that is — for a stark contrast. We have a few tips on how to go to the darker side without looking like Gothic Barbie.

Black lipstick
To look bewitching rather than witchy with black lips on, keep the rest of your face understated and clean. Trim your brows so they frame your face neatly. Don’t forget your blusher to inject a healthy glow to the look.
Use: Anna Sui Vivid Lipstick in Black. A lipstick that smells like spring (it’s rose-scented!), this also has creamy consistency for easy application.

Black eyeliner
Load up your eyeliner brush and apply black eyeliner as much as you wish. The trick to pull off this look for spring is to skip the eyeshadow and head straight for a bright-coloured lipstick. Orange and coral lip colours are super hot this season!
Use: Laura Mercier Caviar Cream. This is buildable and gives a natural-looking line so it won’t look too OTT.

Black mascara
Conventional makeup tips would tell you to go for brown mascara are better for Asian eyes, but we say, go black and don’t go back! Darkened lashes look fuller and longer. Paired with the right amount of highlighter and a lot of pink blusher, you’d look like a doll, we promise.
Use: Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes. Twiggy is the muse behind latest mascara by Lancome and this mascara is equipped with a specially-shaped brush to deliver doll-like eyes that look flirty and mesmerising.
