I’ve been hearing so much about BB cream for some time now, so I thought it’s time to do a little research on what it really is, as well as the effects we can expect from using it and which brands are doing it best.
So what is BB Cream? It claims not only to be a primer and foundation, but also a sun block, balm and a moisturiser in one! I first heard of this new beauty miracle cream when a friend of mine asked me to recommend the best one, and I had to admit I hadn’t even heard of it even though the cream is tipped as one of the biggest trends of the year.
Everybody has been saying “BB”, but do you know what it stands for? The answer: Beauty balm. But it’s more than that. While it was said to have come from Asia, it was a German dermatologist, Dr Christine Schrammek, who created the premise in the ’50s with a concoction for her patients after they had undergone peel treatments. Not only did the cream stop the redness but also soothed and moisturised the face.
No sooner had my friend asked me for a recommendation than I saw the new Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector Daily All-In-One BB Cream advertised on the TV. The company is pitching it as one of their biggest launches in years.
Other brands buying into the BB phenomenon include Dior with the Snow White Reveal UV Protection BB Cream, Mac’s Prep + Prime BB Cream and Clinique’s Age Defence BB Cream. For a little luxury, Spanish spa brand Germaine de Capuccini has just launched its BB Cream Perfectionist.
